Thumb ligament tears: Can be on the ulnar or radial side of the MCP joint. They can be partial or complete. Partial tears often are treated conservatively unless there is a chronic symptomatic laxity. Acutes complete tears are treated woth immobilzation or with surgery depending upon the type of tear. Hand surgeons treat these most often and understand when to use what type of treatment
