A 40-year-old member asked:

is it safe to start giving fish to my 3 year old kid?

Fish for Kids: Yes, fish is healthy for kids. Limit to 2-3 times per week because of mercury, & limit tuna to twice a month. Avoid shark, king mackerel, tilefish, and swordfish. If your child refuses fish, try surimi/fake crab made from whitefish.

A 36-year-old member asked:

What are the side effects / long term effects of sedation in a 3 yo kid?

Depends on the med: Sedation in a 3yo is generally well tolerated when used in the basically healthy child. The term sedation has a variable meaning, with a bit of benedryl making some groggy to the gas anesthesia that puts them in deep sedation. Side effects depend on the med & how fast it leaves their system.

Can he hear?: This would be a great question for your pediatrician or family medicine doc. The first order of business will be to have a hearing test, because if he is deaf, he might not learn to speak well and need to communicate some other way. You may also be right to worry about how well the brain is working. Maybe he has a developmental delay. Lots of possible reasons for that, but start with hearing.
