Depends!: Not sure what you exactly mean by "types" of depression. They are helpful for uni bipolar depression and usually ineffective in the depressed phase of bipolar disorder.

Depression: Antidepressants can sometimes cause a person with bipolar depression to flip into mania or hypomania. However, they are the mainstay psychotropic medication for unipolar depression.
