Longevity and ESRD: Patients on dialysis live shorter than their age matched persons not on dialysis. The life expectancy is dependent of the underlying disease, diabetes usually live on dialysis for a shorter period of time than do non-diabetic dialysis patients. You should ask the patient's nephrologist (n) for a better estimate of the patient's expectant life span. The n is better equipped to answer your question.
