A member asked:

Does an aids serology test only look for the aids virus or does it look to see if you are hiv positive ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Confusion: There is no such thing as the aids virus - there never was. The virus is HIV - human immunodeficiency virus. If you're hiv+, you have hiv. Aids (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) is the condition resulting from HIV - your immune system is so weakened that you are susceptible to opportunistic infections and get other health problems. So, serology is for HIV viral load and its target, cd 4 cells.
