A member asked:

How are the treatment of schizophrenia in 1960-1970 and today distinguished from each other?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Differences: With research we are learning more about schizophrenia and possible other neurotransmitters involved. There are a lot more antipsychotic available today than in 1960. With advances in technology, neuroimaging can be done to identify problem areas in the brain. Patients are not merely locked up in asylums, but instead take part in community based treatment. Overall, there is more support.
