A member asked:

What type of narcotics should be used in the treatment of schizophrenia?

None: Narcotics are used for pain. Schizophrenia does not involve physical pain. So, if just schizophrenia, narcotics should not be used. Of course, a schizophrenic can have other conditions that cause pain, including trauma. For that, it depends on the type of pain but again, narcotics are not used in the treatment of schizophrenia.

None: Most folks equate narcotics as meaning opiates or pain killers. Opiates are not considered to be a part of any sort of standard psychiatric treatment, especially not schizophrenia.. Opiates can lead to addiction problems for some people.
