A member asked:

I was wondering if mixed race children suffer from sickle cell?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possibly: It all depends on the genes carried by the parents. While it is common for black americans to carry the sickle gene as an asymptomatic carrier, it does show up in other races. All it takes to produce an affected kid is to have both parents carry the gene & pass it to baby at conception. It is not as common in the mixed race setting.
