Complicated: It is widely believed that the HIV virus migrated from the ape model (siv...Both viruses are very similar!). This likely happened early in the 20th century as early as the 1930's. The first aids death is now recorded from the democrtic republic of congo from 1956 (stored frozen blood from a primate researcher). Either from bites, or from vaccines (ape kidneys were used as agar media/plates).
