Who to see: Varicose vein problems can range from cosmetic spider veins or larger varicosities that can cause phlebitis, pain, aching or in extreme cases leg ulcerations. I would recommend seeing a vascular specialist who is fully trained in all aspects of vein disease, such as a vascular surgeon. Very few other specialties receive comprehensive training in all aspects of diagnosis and treament.

Vein treatment: Varicose veins are caused by venous insufficiency. Treatment of venous insufficiency can include compression stocking use, endovenous ablation, sclerotherapy, or surgical vein stripping. Therapy is based on location of reflux and patient anatomy.

Seek a vein clinic: Most physicians have inadequate training in venous disease. A vein specialist can help you come up with a diagnostic and therapeutic plan. It may take some time to get results, but many treatment options exist.

Depends: The treatment of varicose veins depends on the underlying pathology as well as the symptoms that you have. Having an evaluation by a specialist in all aspects of venous insufficiency is the first step in caring for your varicose veins.

Depends how bad: Severe, disfiguring, painful vvs are best treated by vascular surgeons. They have multiple effective treatments to get rid of them. Superficial veins, which require primarily cosmetic removal, can be dealt with a dermatologist by injection or laser. Bottom line is to see a specialist if vvs are symptomatic or least "bug you".
