A member asked:

Is it unusual to have severe allergic reaction to the mri dye?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Very rare: Mri "dye" is gadolinium, a rare element that has rare side effects. Allergic reactions are very unusual and vary in frequency from 0.004% to 0.7%. A rash, hives, or urticaria are the most frequent. Severe, life-threatening anaphylactoid or nonallergic anaphylactic reactions are exceedingly rare (0.001% to 0.01%).
