Not Sure: We know of several things that can cause canker sores(vitamin deficiency emotional stress, smoking, sls {sodium lauryl sulfate in most toothpastes}, as well as other illnesses(mostly autoimmune disorders). They do not seem to be caused by bacteria or virus but can also be an allergy to a common bacterium has been reported. Tissue trauma also can be a cause.

Canker sores can be : Caused by stress, burns, trauma, herpes and other unknown causes. When you have an eruption, see your dentist for a proper diagnosis. There are various medications to treat canker sores but it depends on the cause.
