Appropriate meds: There are several meds that have a good chance to provide reasonable pain relief in fm. Consult with a rheumatologist.

Make sure sleeping: At night. If clinch teeth in sleep, pain worse. Rheumat. May be reluctant to treat insomnia, if not sleeping well it becomes cyclic with pain. Teeth clinching called bruxism, look it up, if no contraindications, small dose clonazepam, at night for sleep, helps muscle spasm and bruxism but needs to be part of regimen with say Cymbalta or tramadol, Lyrica (pregabalin) orgabapentin, sleep wake cycle critical.

Exercise, meds: Exercise and certain medications, like antidepressants which effect norepinephrine can be quite helpful. Avoid narcotics - for this condition, they do more harm than good!

Good pain specialist: Pt, heat, acupuncture, chiropracter, anti-seizure medications (like lyrica), anti-depressant medication and muscle relaxants can help a great deal. A good pain specialist can evaluate you and guide your treatment.

No magic bullet: Focus on solutions to improve two of the most common associated problems - poor sleep quality, and chronic lack of physical activity. Symptom scores of pain do improve when these two areas are addressed and quality of life is improved.
