What's the cause?: Inflammation (itis) is when the skin and soft tissues become red, hot, swollen and tender) . It can be caused by many things including sunburn (radiation), trauma (sprained ankle) or poor vein circulation (stasis dermatitis). It need not be caused by bacteria. It is how things heal and so will continue until the area is healed but reduces in intensity as healing progresses. A few weeks is possible.
