Supeficial: What are the location of veins? Is it painful? Any reddness or cord-like feeling over the vein? Might need to rule out phlebitis.

Phlebitis: Direct vein trauma can cause veins to swell and clot, leading to "knots". Usually the veins scar down and close, but can also become infected and tender.
