Scars are permanent: But you may have options to improve the scars appearance. Several lasers are available that may improve the scar appearance (fraxel, pixel, co2). A tissue filler can be used to decrease the depth of a scar. A deep "ice pick" scar and be excised so that it is less noticeable. Using a good skin care regimen is key to keep acne under control and prevent new pimples from forming.

Scientific Rx: The scars can be addressed by a dermatologist with filler, microsurgery, abrasion or laser. Don't try anything yourself. For current acne, benzoyl peroxide has probably failed if you have old scarring, so you will need prescription strength rx. Any home / pop cure is an adjunct only. I'm sorry you have not gotten adequate rx so far, and i urge you to initiate physician contact now.

You must have noticed that several well-known Hollywood male stars have kept (and perhaps even cultivated) their acne scars for the "tough guy" look. Remember this as you think about your experience and choices.

Acne Scars: There are several products that can reduce the appearance of scars and sun spots. There are many otc bleaching creams available, however, the most effective bleaching creams can be purchased from your dermatologist or can be prescribed. If you have acne scars, it is extremely important to wear sunscreen daily as the sun can make the scars and dark spots worse.

Multiple options: Acne scars come in several "flavors." there are ice pick scars, boxcar scars, rolling scars and atrophic scars. Acne scars are difficult to treat. There is no "magic bullet." scar excision/revision, injectable fillers/fat, subcision, laser, chem peel, dermabrasion, etc. Many treatments can "improve" the flatness of the scar, and/or texture of the skin, but it will not make your skin flawless.
