A member asked:

Why might it be that the glucose level rise when you have infection?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cytokines: Some of the problem relates to release of cytokines that block the cellular uptake site of glucose through Insulin blockade. Hyperglycemia during infection may also be a warning sign for future diabetes mellitus in the person so affected. The other mechanisms are very complex and cannot be elucidated here.
