No, very less likely unless regular cough syrup was used which can increase blood sugar.

Maybe. The body releases stress hormones during illness which may elevate the basal glucose level some. But why are you checking the blood glucose of a non-diabetic kid. If an 8 yo develops diabetes it comes on rapidly with significant glucose elevations in the hundreds if not thousands with rapid weight loss. Randomly testing a kid that age is not a reasonable habit.

if there is an illness, this may be associated with physiologic stress and elevation in blood glucose. Keep your child well hydrated, monitor breathing and temperature. Watch for signs of shortness of breath and prolonged cough/vomiting. The test may have been ordered as part of a panel. The actual value and other tests were not specified, and would be helpful to provide. Please follow up.
