Do NOT: Most people cannot quit cold turkey and stay that way unless they are abruptly changing their environment (friends, jobs, move out) or they loss their love ones due to secondary smoking. Try to step down the amount of cigarette used per day (take lesser number of cigarettes and cut in half to have more stumps to smoke). Change to lesser dosage of nicotine (light or ultralight).

It works, go for it.: As far as quitting without any nicotine replacement, the cold turkey method is great. But plan it ahead of time. Pick a quit date in advance, maybe a meaningful date like a birthday or holiday, and gather people who are aware of your attempt that you can call upon for moral support if you start to falter. Good luck!!
