Specialties: As different as cardiology, urology, and orthopedic surgery are in medicine. Each specialty requires 2+ years of full-time university training after 4 years of dental school. Orthodontist is the occlusion expert, creating ideal tooth and jaw relationships. Endodontist is pain specialist, resolving damage to the "nerve" of the tooth. Periodontist assures health of gums and tooth-supporting bone.
