No.: The major way the iud works is not through aborting conceived fetuses. They both work primarily by thickening the cervical mucus to prevent the sperm from fertilizing eggs. The copper iud has more of a possibility of causing abortion of a conceptus (fertilized egg) than does the progestin iud. But they are not primarily abortifacients.
