Caffeine taper: Taper caffeine on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. A standard cup of coffee is 8 ounces. Week 1: eliminate ½ to 1 cup of coffee. Replace with ½ to 1 cup of water. The extra water will help flush out caffeine & hydrate. Week 2: eliminate 1 ½ to 2 cups of coffee & replace with water. Week 3: if week 2 was well tolerated, then eliminate 2 ½ to 3 cups of coffee.
