Sent to laboratory.: When a tumor is removed it is sent to pathology for study. Docs (pathologists) in the lab will dissect the tumor and make microscope slides to view the make up of the tumor and decide from what type of cell(s) it is derived. The pathologist will give a diagnosis (benign versus malignant) and type of the tumor. They can help establish if the tumor has spread and if it was completely excised.
