Yes, but...: Boys who have grown up in chaotic / abusive / violent homes have learned behaviors that enabled survival but that serve them poorly as adults. They tend to be mistrustful, confused and may withdraw. This is better than continuing the pattern of violence. There's little you can do beyond kind words -- you can't change a person and they may resent your efforts. And some people simply to be alone.
