Nutrition & hygiene: A balanced nutrition with foods that is good for your body will be good for teeth and gum too. Avoid acidic drinks (soda, sports drinks) and sweets. If you do like these food, rinse or brush your teeth right after. All decay or gum infection are caused by microbials (bacteria). Keep your teeth cleaning by brush and flossing and see a dentist regularly for prevention is the key.
