Should not take long: Except in rare cases it should not be that difficult or time consuming to make the diagnosis if you are in contact with the correct providers. No lab or diagnostic testing is necessary although it is usually done at some point. The diagnosis is made utilizing a standard set of criteria that evaluates the presence or absence of specific behaviors combined with some level of speech/language delay.
