The first thing: That is needed is to establish trust and rapport. I have found that can sometimes be no easy task with a teenager. Actually that is the first issue whether doing therapy with a teen or an adult. Who would want to make them self vulnerable by sharing with someone they don't believe they can trust.? Second the teen needs to know that they are in a safe environment & that they are being heard.
