Accept yourself: If your spouse already accepts you the way you are why the need to change anything. You are just setting yourself up for disaster.

Weight loss: The most lasting weight loss happens over several months (or years, depending on how overweight you are). If you have only 10-15 pounds to lose, cutting out the "white" carbs like white bread, pasta, potatoes, sugar & rice may help you over the next several weeks [~2lb/week]. Eliminate fried and processed foods -- eat veggies, lean proteins, etc. Plenty of water to drink. Exercise daily!
