Maybe: Having an overweight parent definitely increases a child's risk of being overweight/obese. This is likely due to a combination of children patterning their eating habits and sedentary lifestyle of their parents as well as genetic tendency towards obesity. However, being aware of the weight struggles can be a powerful motivator for parents to adopt a healthy lifestyle for the whole family.

Maybe: There are genetic factors involved, so a baby with overweight parents may inherit from mom and dad some tendency to be overweight. There are familial but non-genetic factors also, one example being that because kids eat with their parents, the kids will be eating high-calorie foods if the parents eat high-calorie foods.
