My 2 yr old son was diagnosed with rsv and i took him to the er and they gave him medication but now hes wheezing coughing up spit and a lot of mucus what should i do and should i be concerned?

If he is having difficulty breathing, you should return to the ER for further treatment. If he is not having any breathing difficulty, do you have a nebulizer for him? If he is not having breathing difficulty but he is wheezing/coughing, a nebulizer treatment would likely help him. If you don’t have a nebulizer, call your doctor or go to the ER. Good luck!

RSV infection may cause these symptoms. Is there a history of wheezing? If so, treatment with a bronchodilator may be helpful. Usually nasal saline and removal of nasal secretions is effective in reducing cough due to post nasal drip. Watch for signs of distress and please follow up. A Healthtap consult is available.
