A member asked:

As a singer and having a talking profession, what are the chances my voice will be lost permanently or altered to where i cant talk or sing well after thyroid removal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

If there is nerve injury during surgery it could take 6-8 weeks for recovery. Severe damage could be permanent .Voice changes such as hoarseness, loss of projection and loss of high pitch for a singer are possible. Subtle changes can last up to six months. All these symptoms depend on how the surgery ended up. Your surgeon will discuss this with you.
