Moderation: Xray involves ionizing radiation which in moderation will not be dangerous. Multiple high dose studies like ct, pet ct, some nuclear scans in short intervals of time can lead to possible cancer. Mri uses magnetic fields and does not involve ionizing radiation and therefore is not usually harmful. The use of these forms of imaging depends on answer required to solve individual problem.

Xrays cause cancer: Mris do not use ionizing radiation and therefore do not cause cancer. Doctors fail to inform their patients that 1 in 500 to 1 in 100 will develop a cancer from the radiation used by the ct scan. Whereas if you had an MRI no cancers are caused by the test. Although you will get many doctors that say the test is not proven to cause cancer - epidemiology suggests otherwise.
