It was long felt that,unlike gastric bypass, gastric sleeve didn't affect intrinsic factor function, but more recent studies showed that it does & results in B12 & iron deficiency. Taking sublingual B12 tablets will obviate B12 deficiency. I believe that some iron can still be absorbed without intrinsic factor. The gastric sleeve causes long-term intrinsic factor deficiency though.
