Hi would a matted lymph nodes in the neck feel soft?

Most often the lymph node either alone or matted will be solid and firm, not soft. If the lump is next to the thyroid, what you feel may be a superficial thyroid cyst rather than a matted lymph nodes. Whatever the nature of the lump, you will need to have the ultrasound done.
