A member asked:

What are the most common risks of having an ultrasound guided aspiration for a left, back knee ganglion cyst? was told the recurrence rate is 50%. is there anything i can do to also lower this rate?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Risks of an ultrasound guided aspiration of the knee are pretty minimal. Of course there is a risk for infection because any time you put something in the body, infection is a risk but if precautions are taken during the procedure this is rare. The reason why there is a recurrence rate of 50% is because the cause of the ganglion cyst is not being addressed. Likely, the recurrence is really higher.
