While lightning can travel through plumbing the odds of this happening are very remote. I doubt many people completely avoid using the toilet or quickly washing hands during a thunderstorm.

As long as there is no lightening occurring in your immediate vicinity than continue your usual lifestyle. Heavy rain is not a problem, as well as thunder, but wait till storm passes if lightening is constant and stay away from windows.
