Rabies is transmitted through saliva into a bite or open wound. If you have not had a bite or scratch from a rabid animal (typically raccoons, skunks, foxes or bats) then you are not at risk for rabies. Vaccines always carry risk of side effects, and should not be given when there is no indication.
