A member asked:

Nurse said my lungs spasmed when the tube was taken out after surgery im a 26 yo male with no lung issues.. nothing noted on surgery report was this likely a bronchospasm? isnt that rare for a healthy person? am i at risk for future surgeries?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Bronchospasm is a protective mechanism of the lung, meant to prevent noxious gasses or other materials or aerosols from progressing to the sensitive alveoli of the lungs. I can trigger bronchospasm in almost anyone by exposing them to chlorine gas. I wouldn't consider the comment of the nurse worth worrying about.
