ACE-inhibitors: Losartan belongs to a class of antihypertensives called ARB. A related class of antihypertensives called ACE-inhibitors are considered first line treatment. ACE-I have been shown to improve heart failure, prolong life after heart attack, and prevent kidney disease in diabetes. The most common side effect of ACE-inhibitors is cough; ARBs skip the metabolic step that results in cough.

One drug: It sounds a bit excessive to start 2 drugs for such a mild blood pressure elevation. Usually you start with just one drug and the class of drug you start with is determined by several other factors. Hope this helps.
