A member asked:

Is there an alternate way to take prophylaxis for endocarditis during dental procedures? i am in the high risk category.- my dentist is not in for a week. i do not tolerate high doses of antibiotics, is it safe to split the dose to before and after?

Yes. As long as you are covered with an antibiotic before as well as afterwards and the dental procedures are not that invasive. You could also consult your PCP until your dentist returns.

I would recommend that you ask the person that knows your heart best, your Cardiologist.
