The most effective treatment for a draining boil involves opening it completely & removing both the pus and the tissue capsule that surrounds it. Oral antibiotics and reduce the chance the germs will spread to other sites. Doing both is a common standard of care. Doing only oral meds without opening the boil will likely just lead to a recurrance.
