A member asked:

I know its normal for alcohol to raise hr but how much would be considered abnormal? i had two drinks yesterday (first time in months) and my hr went from my regular 63 to 180. it was also very hot (97* f). normal given the two dehydrating factors?

If your calculation of your heart rate is accurate, a rate of 180/ minute is more than simple sinus tachycardia & is worrisome. How long did this very rapid rate last? Did it start or stop abruptly? A combination of hot environment coupled with 2 alcoholic drinks could normally raise blood pressure & heart rate could approach 90-100/minute. Anymore episodes of very rapid tachycardia warrant eval
