Norestirat injections last about 8 weeks. After 8 weeks, your body begins to recalibrate back to your normal hormone levels and you are no longer protected from pregnancy. Alternative methods should be used if having sexual intercourse after 8 weeks with no additional injections.

According to the drug’s maker, it depends on where a person is in her dosing. After the first 3 injections, a person is at risk of pregnancy after about 8 weeks. After that, she’s at risk after 13 weeks. If stopping the medication entirely, it takes up to three months after the last injection before menstruation returns to normal and up to two more months after that before pregnancy is possible.
