A member asked:

Is it possible that i have an autoimmune disease with a negative ana and rf, but elevated hscrp and esr? i have previously been diagnosed with pcos, but i dont feel that is accurate?

You're much less likely to have an autoimmune disorder when your ANA is negative, but there is still a possibility of having one. hsCRP & ESR are nonspecific measures of inflammation in the body. If you feel you have symptoms suggestive of an autoimmune disease, consult a rheumatologist for evaluation and advice. Any appropriate testing will be ordered. There are no specific tests to diagnose PCOS

Yes, autoimmune diseases remain possible, so called seronegative, and a rheumatologist’s opinion may be needed. In case having doubts about previous diagnoses, try to reconcile them with treating doc.
