If one is taking a sustained-release form of metoprolol, it should be OK to take it at night. However, be sure to seek the opinion of your Dr.

A person should take it as prescribed by their doctor, as that person may being take other medications or have other factors that may favor timing at certain times of the day. Absent any of those concerns and all by itself, metoprolol may be taken in either the morning or night as long as it’s consistent, and it’s generally recommended to take the medication with or immediately following a meal.
