I don't consider clonidine a good first line choice to treat hypertension. Your treatment goal is 130/80 or lower. Esophageal motility disorders can be a cause of chest pains. As part of your checkups, have you had a treadmill stress test to screen for significant coronary artery blockages? If not get one as this can give you reassurance about chest pains as being from coronary artery disease
