Metoprolol can cause an increase in fatigue, especially when it is first taken. But, often after it is taken for a while, this side effect does get better. So, if the metoprolol is needed for a serious condition, the fatigue in all likelihood will be temporary. If the fatigue is severe, a different med can be given. Good luck!

The best bet to have one’s fatigue evaluated is to discuss this directly with a healthcare professional who can evaluate your whole health history to identify other possible contributing factors to fatigue. However, the medication has been associated with fatigue - both in general and because it can reduce a person’s ability (“capacity”) to exercise.
