A member asked:

I have untreated obstructive hydrocephalus. neuro reluctant to refer to surgery. does a progression in biventricular diameter of the lateral ventricles but no change in third ventricle over time mean the pressure is not that significantly increased?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The brain generates more spinal fluid every hour & if there is uncompensated hydrocephalus the ventricles expand & tissue pressure creates symptoms. Any neurosurgical procedure to treat the issue must balance the inherent risk of surgery/complications of any inserted device, need for ongoing care with the possible benefit. It sounds like there is a reluctance to intervene bases on all factors
