What is a boil?

Infected skin tissue: Infxn under skin. Needs opened, drained and antibiotics for a few days.

Infection under skin: Usually a boil refers to a "puss pocket" type of infection under and in fhte skin. It often comes from the bacteria that are on the skin, getting inside it. They generally need to drain, and most of them will do so if you soak them with warm water several times daily. If they don't drain, you may need to have your health care provider open it up, as was suggested. Antibiotics sometimes help too.

Abscess Treatment: An abscess is a tender mass generally surrounded by a colored area from pink to deep red. Abscesses are often easy to feel by touching. The middle of an abscess is full of pus and debris. http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/abscess#1
