Since I don't suspect a cardiac or lung cause, I think your sharp,shooting chest pains are coming from your rib cage. A pinched Inter costal nerve or muscle that runs between 2 ribs is a common cause of sharp,fleeting chest pains occurring with a deep breath or certain movements. This usually resolves on its own after a day or two. If not see your MD for evaluation & advice.&?A chest X-Ray
